2-Night Family Itinerary for Little Kids (Ages 0–8)

This itinerary is all about wonder, gentle pacing, and memory-making moments.

Arrival– First Night

4pm Arrival at Longneck Manor
Check into your luxury accommodation and take time to settle in. From the moment you arrive, kids will feel the excitement—rhinos roaming behind the villas — or giraffes through the windows of the giraffe suite tend to spark awe instantly.

Dinner: Family-Friendly Fredericksburg Dining

Head into Fredericksburg for a family dinner at one of the many restaurants. Here are a few of our favorites.

Evening Wind-Down
Back at Longneck Manor, enjoy a calm evening under the Texas stars—perfect for early bedtimes after an exciting arrival.

First Full Day

8:00–9:00 AM: Breakfast & Animal Observation
Overnight guests receive a complimentary continental breakfast basket on the first morning of their stay, which is delivered at 8am. The giraffes typically head out to the villa pasture at around 8:30 so you can enjoy your blueberry muffin and coffee while watching them stretch their long morning legs.

9:00–11:00 AM-ish: Morning Animal Interactions
Mornings are the heart of the Longneck Manor experience. During this window, families enjoy guided giraffe and rhino encounters, learning how your visit supports wildlife conservation. You get up close with a rhino, feeling the rough skin, touching the horn, talking to him like he’s your family pet, and experiencing the gentleness of these giants. You’ll get to meet our tower of giraffes and feed them their favorite — lettuce! For kids, this is often the highlight of the entire trip. Either this first morning or the second morning, you will also visit with our sloth, Bruno, make a skin-print with the rhino, and make a painting with one of the giraffes.

11:00-Noon
Head back to your room, take some pics of the giraffes wandering in the pasture. Then gather up your necessities and head out to have lunch and explore the area.

Noon-1:00 LUNCH!

1pm-3pm Afternoon Activity

Depending on where you go to lunch, you may want to shop Main Street a little. Although that won’t hold your little ones’ attention for long, Fredericksburg is famous for its historic shopping district.

  • Wildseed Farms – Open spaces, seasonal blooms, and easy walking paths
  • Marktplatz Playground – A classic Fredericksburg stop for younger kids
  • Pioneer Museum Complex – Short, interactive exhibits that spark curiosity
  • Sauer-Beckmann Farm – a real 1800s working farmstead and nature trail
  • Lady Bird Johnson Nature Trail – Nice little hike at a local park
  • Science Mill in Johnson City — Interactive and educational

3pm-4pm Grab Take Out and Head Back

With littles, you may be looking at early bedtimes, so we suggest grabbing some take-out from one of the many restaurants and heading back to Longneck Manor to watch the “Giraffe Parade” at 3:30. This is when the giraffes “parade” into the barn single file…a beautiful daily ritual. (If you ate all your breakfast basket items, you might grab some breakfast goodies, too!)

Evening Dinner and a Show

Fix your plates and enjoy the back deck of your villa, watching the rhinos scamper about in the pasture. (Or, if you’re in the Giraffe Suite, cozy up next to the windows and visit with the giraffes. Walk down the Longneck Manor driveway and count how many deer you see bedding down for the night.

Second Morning

9:00 AM: Animal Interactions
Prepare for another immersive morning with one of our rhinos and with our herd of giraffes. Take the pics you didn’t get yesterday and soak in all the information and animal love. Remember that your stay is helping to support impactful wildlife conservation around the globe!

11:00 AM-ish: Checkout
Pick up your animal paintings at the Welcome Center. Then take the conservation messages with you and spread the word so we can take care of this one planet and all the creatures that call it home.

Older kids crave excitement, storytelling, and moments they can’t stop talking about—or posting about. This itinerary leans into adventure, learning, and hands-on experiences.
