Mary is a Texas native with a strong passion and commitment to both animal wellness and conservation. Even before she was old enough to be employed, she worked as a volunteer at the Houston Zoo and other animal care facilities. She was a full-time zookeeper at the Houston Zoo for six years before accepting an animal training position at the Downtown Aquarium in Denver, CO. Mary has worked with animals ranging in size from tarantulas to elephants but has a special fondness for giraffes and rhinos. Â
Mary has a B.S. in Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences from Texas A&M as well as an M.S. from Miami University, focusing on community-based conservation. She has assisted in field conservation programs as far away as Mongolia. Her main passions include inspiring people to conserve animals and their habitats, as well as training and enrichment to ensure the best animal welfare. Outside of work, she loves hiking with her dog and traveling to new places.
